From Dryers to Blenders: An Appliance Blog

Five Tips For Protecting Your Blender From Breakage And Repair Issues

A blender is an essential household appliance, especially if you like blended soups, smoothies, and milkshakes. Want your blender to stand the test of time? Check out these maintenance and care tips.

1. Don't Use Other Containers

Ideally, you should only use jars that are expressly designed for use with your brand of blender. If you use a jar that's designed to fit another type of blender, the drive shaft of your blender may not fit correctly with the base of the alternative jar. That could cause issues or damage.

2. Stop If You Smell Heat

Some blenders have a sensor that automatically disables the drive shaft if the internal components get too hot. However, not all blenders have that feature. If you are ever blending and you start to smell a hot, smoky odor, stop the blender immediately.

That odor is from the blender's motor overworking, and if you don't stop, it could burn out the motor. Give the blender a break, and try using it again after it feels completely cool.

3. Load the Blender Correctly

The way you load the blender can also have an impact on its functioning. Try putting in liquids and viscous substances like ice cream and yogurt first. Then, add small ingredients like chopped mangoes for smoothies or diced cooked vegetables for soups. Finally, put in large items like ice cubes or frozen fruits.

This arrangement helps to prevent all of the large and hard items from getting lodged in the blades. Instead, the blender attacks the soft, small stuff first, and as that gets blended, the rest of the stuff drops down, slowly getting blended along the way.

4. Avoid Extension Cords

Ideally, you should avoid attaching extension cords to blenders. They present  tripping hazards in many cases, and if someone trips over them, that may pull the blender off its surface, breaking it. If you have to use an extension cord to use the blender outside, make sure it is well secured.

5. Don't Use Boiling Water

The seals are essential for this appliance to function correctly, and if you pour boiling water into your blender, the heat may degrade your seals. Make sure to check the temperature requirements noted by your manufacturer so you don't exceed the hot or cold temps that your blender can handle.

Even if you are super careful, accidents can happen and parts can wear out. Luckily, there's appliance repair to help. Contact an appliance repair company if your blender is having an issue.
